Free file transfer guide

How to transfer files without login

When an email attachment is too large, cloud-drive permissions are unnecessary, or a file only needs to be available briefly, a temporary sharing link can be the simpler option. This guide explains the exact limits, steps, and tradeoffs.

Quick answer

Open EpheSend, choose up to five files, set an expiry and optional access controls, then create random sharing links. No account is required. The exact per-file limit is 500,000,000 bytes (about 476.8 MiB).

Transfer a file in three steps

  1. Choose your files. Add up to five documents, images, archives, audio files, or videos in one batch. Each file must remain below the displayed limit.
  2. Set the lifetime and access controls. Choose 15 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, or 24 hours. Optionally add a password, download limit, or burn-after-read.
  3. Copy and send the random link. Share it only with the intended recipient. Revoke the link early when the transfer is complete.

Exact 500 MB limit and sharing options

Current public EpheSend limits
Per-file size500,000,000 bytes, about 476.8 MiB. A full 500 MB file is supported.
Files per batchUp to five, with a separate sharing link for each file.
Lifetime15 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, or 24 hours.
Access controlsOptional password, download limit, burn-after-read, and early revocation.
File typesDocuments, images, archives, audio, video, and other common formats; downloads are served as attachments.

Temporary means the service is not long-term cloud storage. Access closes after expiry, revocation, the download limit, or burn-after-read, and cleanup follows. Keep your own original copy.

When a temporary file link is the right tool

Temporary links work well for one-off delivery, short collaboration handoffs, client previews, large email attachments, and files that do not need a permanent cloud-drive location. If people need live editing, version history, or long-term archives, use collaborative cloud storage instead.

Temporary link

Best for quick delivery and short access; no account and automatic expiry.

Email attachment

Convenient for small files and known recipients, but usually subject to attachment limits.

Cloud storage

Better for ongoing collaboration, version history, and archives, but requires account and permission management.

Safety checklist before you share

  • A random link is difficult to guess, but anyone who receives it can still forward it. Add a password for sensitive material.
  • Choose the shortest lifetime that gives the recipient enough time, then revoke the link after delivery.
  • Use burn-after-read or a download limit when a file should only be retrieved once.
  • Do not upload illegal, infringing, malicious, or unauthorized files, and never treat temporary transfer as your only backup.

Frequently asked questions

Is EpheSend really a file transfer without login?

Yes. Uploaders can create temporary sharing links without registering, signing in, or creating an account.

Can I transfer a full 500 MB file for free?

Yes. The exact current limit is 500,000,000 bytes per file, about 476.8 MiB. Larger files must be compressed, reduced, or split.

How long does an uploaded file remain available?

You can choose 15 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, or 24 hours. Revocation, a download limit, or a security action may remove access earlier.

Does a temporary link provide end-to-end encryption?

No such claim is made. Transfers use HTTPS, files stay in non-public storage, and access uses random links and optional controls, but EpheSend does not advertise end-to-end encryption.
